This section explains the term "XWear" as used in VRoid Studio's dress-up feature.
XWear
XWear is one of the unique data formats for the dress-up feature.
It is used for handling costumes and accessories.
Costumes
During auto-fitting, costumes adjust to an avatar's body type by scaling each bone.
*Auto-fitting is enabled for costumes where hips are registered within HumanoidMapComponent as HumanoidBones.
Costume files can contain...
- Full costume sets
- Costume parts (e.g. only tops, gloves, or shoes)
Accessories
You can select a target bone for each accessory to follow.
(By default, the bone to follow is set to Null.)
During auto-fitting, the accessory moves to the position of the target bone.
If auto-fitting is performed with the target bone set to Null, the accessory will remain in its initial position.
Accessory files can contain...
- Accessories with bones (e.g. a ribbon)
- Accessories without bones (e.g. hats, glasses)
XWear files can be created by converting VRChat-compatible costumes and accessories.
The conversion uses VCC and the dress-up feature's editor extension (XWear Package).

The exported XAvatar file can then be uploaded to VRChat.
