This section explains the term "XRoid" as used in VRoid Studio's dress-up feature.
XRoid
XRoid is one of the data formats specific to the dress-up feature.
It is a project file format used to save data during the dress-up process.
It cannot be used outside of the dress-up feature.
XRoid files consolidate all editing data from the dress-up feature—including VRM, XAvatar, XWear, and any changes made—into a single file.
This format stores the base model, costumes, accessories, mesh deletion data for the base model, and costume transformation details.
How to save an XRoid file
Click "Save (.xroid)" or "Save As... (.xroid)" from the top left menu.
How to open an XRoid file
On the model selection screen, click on the thumbnail under "Recently Edited" or click "Open" to launch a file dialog and select your desired XRoid file.
Differences in XRoid files based on your base model
In dress-up editing, you can use XAvatar, VRM, or VRoid files as your base model.
The format of your base model affects how thumbnails are displayed on the model selection screen.
For XRoid files, the thumbnail displays the full body.
Base model format | Available editing options |
VRoid | VRoid editing (XWear is not editable), dress-up editing |
XAvatar, VRM | Dress-up editing |
*"Base model format" refers to the format of the file used as the base model in dress-up editing.
If your base model is a VRoid file...
When you use a VRoid file as your base model, the thumbnail will show an XRoid badge as well as another badge indicating it's a VRoid base model.
If your XRoid file includes a VRoid base model, you can edit the base model in the VRoid editing tab.
However, you won't be able to edit any costumes (XWear) added during dress-up editing.
This setup makes it more convenient to use VRoid files as base models for dress-up.
If you want to modify the base model after dressing it up, you can directly edit
the XRoid file in VRoid Studio.
If your base model is an XAvatar or VRM file...
The thumbnail will only show an XRoid badge.
In this case, you'll only be able to use dress-up editing.
